Pre-Market 6 May 2026: What To Expect After Nifty At 24,033, Sensex Falls 252 Points

The Sensex fell 252 points to 77,018. The Nifty slipped 87 points to 24,033. GIFT Nifty was near 24,171, suggesting a slightly positive start. Global cues are mixed, even as renewed US–Iran tensions remain in focus.

Indian markets head into Wednesday after ending lower in the previous session.

The Sensex fell 251.61 points to close at 77,017.79, while the Nifty 50 slipped 86.50 points to settle at 24,032.80 on 5 May 2026.

Markets started weak and stayed under pressure for most of the day.

The Sensex opened lower by 165.68 points at 77,103.72. The Nifty also began in the red, down 66.70 points at 24,052.60. The Nifty Bank index dropped 331 points to 54,547, weighing on the benchmarks.

The Nifty Midcap 100 index rose 105 points to 60,265, showing selective buying. Sector-wise, auto shares and FMCG stocks saw some gains. Realty and consumer durable stocks ended lower.

Global markets remained mixed after Indian trading hours.

In the US, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 343.24 points (0.70%) to 49,285.14. The S&P 500 gained 67.54 points (0.94%) to 7,268.29, while the Nasdaq Composite added 281.51 points (1.12%) to 25,349.32.

Markets have been volatile, reacting to both renewed Middle East tension and the earnings season.

In Asia, trends were mixed. Japan’s Nikkei 225 rose 228.20 points (0.38%) to 59,513.12. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng declined 197.27 points (0.76%) to 25,898.61.

European markets also showed mixed moves. The FTSE 100 fell 144.82 points (1.40%) to 10,219.11, while the CAC 40 gained 86.19 points (1.08%) to 8,062.31.

GIFT Nifty was around 24,171.50, up 62.00 points (0.26%) as of 05 May 2026, 20:58 IST.

The uptick points to a slightly positive start for domestic markets.

The Nifty index continues to trade in a defined range.

  • Immediate support is placed near 23,800

  • On the upside, resistance is seen near 24,300

The index has been moving between 23,800 and 24,300 for several sessions. A breakout on either side may decide the next move.

The session may start on a flat to slightly positive note, tracking GIFT Nifty.

Developments around the US–Iran situation will be watched closely. That has been a key trigger in recent sessions. Q4 earnings are still coming in. Stock-specific moves are likely to continue.
