Wipro Limited was founded on December 29, 1945, by Mohamed Hasham Premji. It was originally referred to as Western India Vegetable Products Limited, focusing on the manufacturing of cooking oils. The registered and corporate office is at Doddakannelli, Sarjapur Road, Bengaluru, Karnataka, 560035, India.

Wipro primarily provides information technology (IT) services, consulting, and business process outsourcing to clients in various sectors including financial services, healthcare, manufacturing, retail, and telecommunications.

Key products and services include cloud computing, cybersecurity, digital transformation, artificial intelligence, data analytics, application development and maintenance services, business process services, and engineering. The Wipro Holmes artificial intelligence platform and Wipro Smart Lighting solutions are two notable proprietary products.

Wipro organises its business into four main divisions, or verticals, which it refers to as Global Business Lines (GBL): Technology Services, Business Process Services, Consulting Services, and Engineering. Each GBL is intended to be well-aligned with its changing client needs and growth opportunities in sectors such as AI, cloud, and digital transformation. The various verticals and GBLs enable Wipro to provide clients with integrated solutions across the full spectrum – from IT consulting and cloud migration to product engineering and business process automation.
