Using Replay Mode to Practice Setups
Reading strategies is one thing. But to really improve as a trader, you need to test your setups in real-time conditions without knowing what comes next.
That’s exactly what Replay Mode on TradingView helps you do.
It lets you “rewind the chart” and simulate live trading using historical price action.
What Is Replay Mode?
Replay Mode allows you to:
- Go back to any point in the past
- Hide all future candles
- Move bar by bar to test entries/exits
- Practice trading without spoilers
It’s like a flight simulator for traders.
How to Use Replay Mode (Step-by-Step)
- Open any chart (e.g., NIFTY, RELIANCE, TCS)
- Click the Replay icon (a “▶️” symbol on the top toolbar)
- A vertical red line will appear, click on the candle where you want to start the simulation
- The chart will rewind to that point
- Use the controls:
- ▶️ to play the bars
- ⏭️ to move forward one candle at a time
- Pause anytime to analyse or place virtual trades
Example: Practicing an RSI + MA Setup
- Go back to a time where RSI was near 30
- Turn on RSI and Moving Average indicators
- Watch price develop bar by bar
- Note:
- When your entry condition is met
- Where you'd place your stop-loss and target
- How the trade plays out
This gives you real decision-making practice without looking at a completed chart.
