Building a Custom Watchlist

The stock market has thousands of instruments stocks, indices, futures, forex, crypto and so much more. But as a trader, you only need to focus on a handful at a time.

That’s where watchlists come in.

A watchlist helps you track the stocks or assets you care about, all in one place. On TradingView, creating and customizing watchlists is simple, and it can save you a lot of time.

Instead of:

  • Typing stock names again and again
  • Switching tabs or scanning multiple platforms

You get a neat, scrollable panel with live price updates for all your selected stocks. It becomes your daily workspace.

  1. Open TradingView
  2. On the right-hand sidebar, click on the watchlist icon (resembles a list)
  3. You’ll see the default watchlist (usually called “Default”)

You can now:

  • Create new lists
  • Add or remove stocks
  • Group stocks by theme or strategy

Steps:

  1. Click the three dots (⋮) at the top-right of the watchlist panel
  2. Select “Create New List”
  3. Name your list Example: “Swing Trades,” “F&O Stocks,” or “Banking Sector”
  4. Your list will now be empty

Steps:

  1. In the search bar at the top of the panel, type the symbol (e.g., TCS, INFY, NIFTY, RELIANCE, etc.)
  2. Click the ‘+’ icon to add it to your active list

Repeat this for every stock or index you want to track.

By default, the watchlist shows:

  • Symbol
  • Last price
  • Change (in ₹ and %)

But you can also add more data:

  1. Click the gear icon at the top of the watchlist
  2. Select columns like:
  • Volume
  • RSI
  • Moving Averages
  • Custom indicators
  1. This gives you a quick scan of key stats across your tracked stocks
  • Use multiple lists for different strategies
  • Reorder stocks by dragging and dropping
  • Use the star icon next to symbols for easy access across devices

A watchlist is more than just a list, it’s your control panel for the markets. Whether you’re monitoring 5 stocks or 50, having them organized in one place helps you react faster, stay focused, and trade smarter.
