Finding and Adding Indicators

Indicators are tools that help you analyse price data in a smarter way. They don’t predict the future, but they give you signals based on past and current price movements.

On TradingView, you’ll find hundreds of indicators - some simple, some advanced. The good news? You don’t need to learn all of them. Just knowing how to find and add the right ones is a strong start.

Indicators are formulas that analyse price, volume, or both. They show up either on the chart (like moving averages) or below the chart (like RSI or MACD).

They help answer questions like:

  • Is the trend strong or weak?
  • Is the stock overbought or oversold?
  • Is momentum building or slowing down?

Follow these steps:

  1. Open any stock chart
    Example: Reliance, Infosys, Nifty 50

  2. Click on the “Indicators” button
It’s at the top of the TradingView chart, shown as “fx” or “Indicators”.

  3. You’ll see a pop-up with four main sections:

  • Built-ins: Popular indicators like Moving Average, RSI, MACD
  • Technicals: Pre-built collections of commonly used tools
  • Community Scripts: Indicators made by other TradingView users
  • My Scripts: If you’ve created or saved custom indicators
  1. Search for the indicator by name
For example, type “RSI” or “MACD” in the search bar

  2. Click once to add it to your chart
You’ll see the indicator either overlayed on the chart (like Moving Averages), or in a separate window below the chart (like RSI or MACD).

Yes, but keep it simple.

Example:
You can use a Moving Average to understand trend direction and combine it with RSI to decide if it's a good time to enter or wait.

Avoid using 5–6 indicators that say the same thing it adds no real value.

Adding indicators on TradingView is easy. What matters is knowing why you’re using a particular indicator. Start small, experiment with a few, and get comfortable with how they behave over time.
