The Tata Group was established in 1868 by Jamsetji Tata. It began as a trading company, but shortly it ventured into the textile business with the introduction of Empress Mills in Nagpur in 1874. Jamsetji had more than a commercial vision; he was interested in industrialisation and in supporting social development by educating people and providing infrastructure. Industrial Expansion

The first integrated steel plant built in India was Tata Steel (1907), and it was established in the early 20th century. In 1910, the group entered into the hydroelectric power industry with Tata Power to assist in the rising industrial base of India.

Post-Independence Growth

The group expanded to its current number of 5 with the entry into manufacturing and IT services with Tata Chemicals (1939), Tata Engineering and Locomotive (1945), and Tata Consultancy Services (1968) following the independence of India. These projects made Tata Group companies significant drivers of economic modernisation in India.

Global Footprint

Since the 1990s, Tata began expanding into other markets with acquisitions such as Tetley (2000), Corus Steel (2007) and Jaguar Land Rover (2008). Today, the Tata Group companies shares are synonymous with resilience, innovation and trust, which have made them an attractive investment choice for investors both nationally and internationally. Furthermore, the Tata Group market cap is more than $328 billion as of March 31, 2025, which makes it a valuable conglomerate across Indian investors.
