GAIL India has tied up with Alpha Gas for a long-term LNG carrier contract. This will help the company with its shipping and logistics. Read ahead to know more.

GAIL (India) Limited has secured a long-term charter for a liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier from Alpha Gas, a move designed to bolster its shipping and logistics operations.

The contract was signed with Pantheon Maritime Services, a Singaporean subsidiary of Alpha Gas, and formalised in Athens.

The deal involves the LNG carrier ‘Energy Fidelity’, which has a cargo capacity of 174,000 cubic metres. It uses modern technologies to enhance fuel efficiency and minimise emissions.

The GAIL share price closed at ₹145.18 on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) on 7 April, up ₹2.04 or 1.43%, indicating a positive market reaction.

The LNG carrier will have a two-stroke propulsion system, air lubrication technology and shaft generators that are intended to maximise fuel consumption and reduce emissions.

The agreement is in line with the wider vision of the Maritime Amrit Kaal 2047 of India that seeks to enhance the maritime infrastructure and energy logistics.

This step will improve the efficiency of GAIL in the transportation of LNG and help to address the increase in energy demand.

The agreement is coupled with other strategic initiatives by the company. In its effort to go international, GAIL had just sanctioned an equity investment of up to $64 million in one of its subsidiaries, GAIL Global (USA) Inc.

The operations-related revenue of GAIL has increased by 13.6%, as the company reported ₹1,03,899 crore of revenue in the nine months ending 31 December 2025, while last year it reported ₹1,01,580 crore.

The period was, however, characterised by a decrease in profitability. Profit before tax decreased to ₹7,387 crore against ₹12,123 crore, and profit after tax decreased to ₹5,706 crore against ₹9,263 crore as compared to last year.

The LNG carrier deal complements GAIL’s push to expand its footprint globally. By combining international investments with operational growth at home, the company aims to strengthen its overall energy portfolio while exploring new revenue streams.
