Tuticorin Alkali Chemicals and Fertilisers Limited was incorporated in December, 1971. The Company is a member of the SPIC (Southern Petro Industries Corporation) Corporate Group. The Company is manufacturing and selling Soda Ash and Ammonium Chloride Fertilizer and has its manufacturing facility at Tuticorin, in Tamil Nadu.The Technical Grade Ammonium Chloride Plant with a capacity of 10,000 tonnes per annum was commissioned in October, 2000.In 200506, the amalgamation of Company with Southern Petrochemical Industries Corporation Limited (SPIC) became effective from April 1, 2005. The Company commenced the manufacture of Ammonium Bicarbonate in 2006.The Soda Ash is concentrated in Gujarat, owing to the abundant availability of key raw materials such as salt and lime. Soda Ash is primarily used in the manufacture of detergents and glass. Company produces Ammonium Chloride fertilizer as a coproduct, utilizing an enhanced version of the Solvay process. As part of its commitment, Company captures carbon dioxide (CO2) gas from boiler flue emissions to use as a raw material in the production process. Company has conducted pilot operations to manufacture the worlds first Green Soda Ash and Green Ammonium Chloride, marking a pioneering achievement in sustainable chemical production.The Company recommenced the operations at Tuticorin Plant on January 21, 2024, which was affected by floods in the month of December 2023.
