Hindustan Aeronautics Limited shares hit a 52-week low on Friday after a sharp fall over six sessions. Uncertainty around future projects has weighed on sentiment despite a strong order pipeline.
Shares of Hindustan Aeronautics (HAL) hit a fresh 52-week low on Friday, 27 March 2026. At around 1:40 PM, the stock was trading for ₹3,602.50 after losing 1.8% since the previous day's close. The stock has already lost around 10% of its value in just six trading days.
The current price is the lowest investors have seen since March 2025. Compared to its peak of ₹5,166 in May last year, the stock has now crashed by 31%.
Why Is The Stock Underperforming?
So far in 2026, HAL shares have underformed the market. They have declined by around 18%, whereas the Sensex has dropped by around 13%.
HAL derives a majority of its revenues from the Indian defense sector. However, there is a rumour that HAL could be excluded from India’s Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) program. While the company clarified on 4 February that it hasn't received any official word on this, the government's silence has made traders nervous about the company's long-term growth.
Management Boasts A Strong Order Book
Despite the falling share price, HAL’s leadership insists the company has a strong confirmed order book. They further informed that HAL is moving away from just assembling foreign planes and focusing on designing its own helicopters and jets.
Even if the company isn't a part of the early testing phase for the AMCA, management is expecting it to become a main partner once mass production starts.

Investor Takeaway
For those looking to buy the dip, HAL is now trading at a massive discount compared to last year. However, the stock is likely to stay volatile until there is a clear yes or no on its role in the AMCA. For now, the wait-and-watch strategy can be the best option.
