VBL Company background
Varun Beverages Ltd (VBL) was incorporated on 31st March 1995 and is headquartered in Gurugram, Haryana. Promoted by the Agarwal family, the company is listed on both the National Stock Exchange (VBL) and Bombay Stock Exchange (540180). As the second-largest beverage franchisee of PepsiCo outside the United States, Varun Beverages operates across India, Africa, and South Asia. The company produces and distributes carbonated soft drinks (CSDs), juices, packaged drinking water, and sports and energy drinks, serving both domestic and international markets.
Varun Beverages Business Segments and Revenue Model
Varun Beverages operates through three key divisions:
- Carbonated Soft Drinks (CSDs) – bottling PepsiCo brands like Pepsi, Mountain Dew, 7UP, Mirinda, and Aquafina across India and international markets.
- Non-Carbonated and Packaged Water – manufacturing Tropicana, Nutriboost, Gatorade, Sting, and packaged water under Aquafina.
- International Operations – bottling and distributing across Africa (Mozambique, Zambia, Uganda, Zimbabwe, Burkina Faso) and South Asia (Sri Lanka, Nepal, Afghanistan).
The company’s revenue model is based on franchise bottling agreements with PepsiCo, through which it receives concentrate and syrup under long-term contracts and earns revenues via product sales to distributors. Profitability stems from efficient production, expansive cold-drink distribution networks, innovative brand marketing, and economies of scale. VBL also generates income from value-added packaging, vending machines, and brand licensing fees in select markets.
