India’s automobile sector recorded its highest-ever February wholesales in 2026, with strong growth across passenger vehicles, two-wheelers and three-wheelers.
India’s automobile sector reported its highest-ever February wholesales in 2026, with passenger vehicles, two-wheelers and three-wheelers all recording solid double-digit growth.
The numbers were released by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) on 13 March.
Industry data shows that demand remained steady across major vehicle categories during the month.
Passenger vehicles continued to hold their ground, while two-wheelers and three-wheelers saw faster expansion compared with last year.
Two-wheelers and three-wheelers, however, showed stronger growth during the month.
The increase suggests that entry-level mobility and last-mile transport segments are still playing a major role in supporting industry volumes.
How Did Major Vehicle Segments Perform In February?
Data released by SIAM shows growth across all major segments.
Passenger vehicle dispatches reached 4.18 lakh units in February 2026, which is 10.6% higher than the same month last year.
Three-wheeler sales have also gone up considerably. The segment recorded 0.75 lakh units, which is 29% more than in February 2025.
The biggest increase was for two-wheelers, with wholesale reaching 18.71 lakh units that represent a 35.2% rise compared to a year earlier, according to industry data.
Which Vehicle Categories Saw Higher Sales?
Sales in the two-wheeler space moved up sharply in February. Both motorcycles and scooters sold far more units than they did a year earlier.
Motorcycles | 10,96,537 | 8,38,250 | 30.8% |
Scooters | 7,29,774 | 5,12,783 | 42.3% |
Vans | 11,620 | 11,493 | 1.1% |
What Does The Industry Say?
Commenting on the performance, Rajesh Menon, Director General of SIAM, said industry sentiment remains positive.
According to him, passenger vehicles, two-wheelers and three-wheelers all recorded their highest February sales in 2026, with double-digit growth compared with the previous year.
However, he also pointed out that global developments could create uncertainty.
The ongoing tensions in West Asia may affect supply chains and could influence manufacturing schedules or exports if disruptions intensify.

What Can People Expect Next?
Industry participants expect March sales to receive support from festival demand in several parts of the country.
Seasonal purchases often lead to higher sales of two-wheelers and passenger vehicles during this period.
Meanwhile, the data for February indicates that the demand inside the country is still strong, which is a good sign for the automobile sector as the financial year is about to end.
