Vedanta Power Limited was originally incorporated in Punjab on April 5, 2007, by the name Talwandi Sabo Power Limited with the Registrar of Companies. Pursuant to the Scheme of demerger, the name of Talwandi Sabo Power Limited was changed to Vedanta Power Limited and a Certificate of incorporation dated June 3, 2026 was issued by the Central Processing Centre.Company was incorporated as a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) by Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) to develop a 1,980 (3x660) MW thermal power project and was subsequently acquired by VEDL through auction. Company has current installed capacity of 4.2GW (additional 0.6GW Saktis Unit2 in Project phase), making it the 5th Largest Private Thermal Company in India as on Dec25 (Adani Power 18.2GW, TATA Power 8.9GW, Reliance Power 5.2GW, JSW Energy 5.7GW). In June 2022, Company acquired Athena Chhattisgarh Power Limited now renamed as Sakti Thermal Plant which owns a 1,200 MW coalbased thermal power plant located at Raigarh district of Chhattisgarh. Pursuant to the Scheme effective from May 1, 2026, the Merchant Power Business Undertaking was demerged from Vedanta Limited as a going concern basis and in consideration, Company issued 3,91,03,88,057 Equity Shares of Rs 10/ each to the shareholders of Vedanta Limited, in accordance with the provisions of the Scheme and on the basis of the Share Entitlement Ratio set out.

As of Jun '26, Vedanta Power’s market capitalisation stood at ₹13,928.80 crores. Shareholding as of Jun '26 shows promoters holding 56.4%, with FIIs at 8.5%, DIIs at 13.1%, and public at 21.9%.
