Founded in: 1989
Cochin Minerals and Rutile Limited (CMRL), a company established in the late 80s, is in the business of manufacturing Synthetic Rutile, Ferrous Chloride, Ferric Chloride, Iron Hydroxide (Cemox), Recovered Ti02, Recovered Upgraded Ilmenite, CMRL BF Protector and Rutoweld. The annual licensed and installed capacity is 50000 MT. These products finds application as raw material for the Titanium pigment and titanium sponge /metal industry.For this, it has put up a plant at Aluva in Kerala. It came out with a public issue in 199192 to partfinance this project. The commercial production commenced in Jul 1993 after delayed for more than six months. To partfinance the cost escalation (due to delay in the implementation of the project) it came out with a Rights Issue in 199394.The company also manufactures off grade titanium dioxide apart from synthetic rutile and ferric chloride. It exports its products to Japan and Middle East countries. In 199899, the company has expanded the capacity of Synthetic rutile to 18000 MT. The Government of Kerala has allotted a mining area on lease (for mining Sand Minerals) in NeendakarKayamkulam belt (Kerala). This makes the company to have its own source of ilmenite, the prime raw material for the company.The manufacturing facility of the company has received the ISO 9002 certificate from Bureau Veritas Quality International. The company has put up a new facility at a capacity of 20000 MT for manufacturing of ferrous chloride and expanded the synthetic rutile producing capacity by 7000 MT during the year 200001.During year 200102, the Company along with Indian Rare Earths Limited (IREL,) and Kerala State Industrial DeveJopment Corporation Ltd (KSIDC), promoted Kerala Rare Earths and Minerals Limited (KRML),for implementing a project in Kerala far Beach Sand Ilmenite Mining and Mineral Separation costing Rs. 100 Crores.
