BSE launched India’s first Saatvik equity index, tracking 100 value-aligned companies and enabling ethical investment products nationwide.

The Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) has rolled out the BSE Saatvik 100 Index via BSE Index Services Pvt. Ltd. This marks the debut of India's first equity index built around Saatvik principles and value-conscious investing. The index provides investors with a benchmark focused on both returns and responsible business behaviour. The launch was announced on 19 June 2026.

The BSE Saatvik 100 Index is derived from the broader BSE 500 Index and comprises 100 companies that meet predefined Saatvik screening criteria. These criteria exclude businesses associated with activities considered inconsistent with Saatvik values, including sectors linked to intoxicants, gambling, cruelty and certain unethical business practices.

The index has been assigned a base value of 1,000. Its historical calculation commences from 20 June 2005. The index will undergo semi-annual rebalancing in June and December to ensure continued compliance with its screening methodology.

According to details released with the launch, the financial services sector accounts for more than one-third of the index weightage. The largest constituents include:

Other major constituents include Bharti Airtel, Larsen & Toubro, Infosys, State Bank of India, Axis Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank and Mahindra & Mahindra.

BSE said the index can serve as a benchmark for a range of investment products, including exchange-traded funds (ETFs), index funds, mutual funds and portfolio management services (PMS). The exchange expects the launch to expand India's thematic investing landscape by offering investors an avenue to align portfolios with ethical and value-oriented principles.

Commenting on the launch, Ashutosh Singh, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of BSE Index Services, said the index broadens the range of thematic indices available to investors seeking alignment between investment decisions and value-based principles.
