Industry Outlook
Indian Railways' fleet reached 1,03,054 coaches in FY 25. Between 2020-21 and 2024-25, the coach inventory grew at a CAGR of 7%, a trend the Dun & Bradstreet report expects to continue as passenger demand rises. Coach output rose 9% in 2024-25. Indian Railways produced 7,134 coaches that year against 6,541 in 2023-24, across ICF Chennai, RCF Kapurthala, and MCF Rae Bareli.
The Dun & Bradstreet report sizes the annual turnkey furnishing market for new coaches at ₹3,908 crore, based on 8,684 coaches at ₹45 lakhs each. Refurbishment adds ₹2,576 crore a year. That estimate assumes 8,588 coaches need refurbishment annually on a 10–12 year cycle, at about ₹30 lakhs per coach under Mission Retrofitment. Toilet up-gradation represents ₹8,741.1 crore. This covers 19,980 coaches where work is under way and 67,431 coaches still to be upgraded, at ₹10 lakhs per coach.
About Acme India Industries Limited
Acme India Industries was incorporated on December 22, 2021. It took over M/s Acme India, a proprietorship Promoter Suraj Pandey started in 2012, which introduced Braille signage for Divyangjan passengers. Fire-retardant epoxy flooring meeting EN-45545 standards followed in 2016. From 2017, the business moved into turnkey furnishing, refurbishment and up-gradation of coaches, and up-gradation of toilets for Indian Railways.
Since 2017, the Company has completed turnkey furnishing of 1,610 coaches across 28 projects at MCF Rae Bareli, ICF Chennai, and RCF Kapurthala. It has refurbished and upgraded 1,888 coaches. Its toilet up-gradation work covers 10,948 units in LHB and ICF coaches. Work spans 16 railway zones and 28 coach variants.
Strengths of Acme India Industries
- 1,610 coaches furnished on a turnkey basis, 1,888 coaches refurbished and upgraded, and 10,948 toilet units upgraded give the Company an execution record across 28 coach variants.
- 16 railway zones, 3 production units, and 2 mid-life rehabilitation units make up the company's operating footprint within Indian Railways.
- A 92,000 square feet Sonipat facility manufactures FRP toilets, side walls, ceilings, and aluminium polymer composite wash basins in-house, backed by ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 15085 certifications.
- Tie-ups with entities in Russia, the USA, Belgium, and South Korea give the Company access to specialised doors, Braille foils, fire-retardant coatings, and PAPIS systems for Vande Bharat trains and metros.
Risks of Acme India Industries
- Indian Railways contributed 46.77% of revenue in FY 26 and 91.54% in FY 25, so any cut in coach spending or change in railway policy would directly reduce the Company's order inflow.
- Contracts are won through competitive tenders awarded mainly on price, so losing bids to lower-priced entrants could slow the Company's revenue growth.
- Trade receivable days rose from 263 in FY 24 to 416 in FY 26, which locks up working capital and contributed to negative operating cash flow of ₹11.50 crore in FY 26.
- The top 10 suppliers accounted for 76.95% of purchases in FY 26, so a supply disruption or quality lapse could delay deliveries and trigger contract penalties.
- Contingent liabilities of ₹94.64 crore as of March 31, 2026, including bank guarantees and income tax demands, could strain finances if they crystallise.
