Power Finance Corporation Limited (PFC) was incorporated in 1986 as a financial institution dedicated to the power sector. It is a Government of India undertaking under the Ministry of Power and has been accorded the status of a Maharatna CPSE. Headquartered in New Delhi, PFC is listed on both the NSE (PFC) and BSE (532810). The company’s core business is providing financial assistance to power sector projects, including generation, transmission, and distribution, as well as renewable energy and infrastructure development.

PFC’s operations are divided into financial products for generation, transmission, distribution, and renewable energy projects. It provides loans, debt refinancing, bridge financing, and structured financial products to state utilities, central power sector entities, and private companies. The company also raises funds through domestic and international borrowings, including bonds, term loans, and external commercial borrowings. Revenue is primarily generated through interest income on loans, fees for project appraisals and consultancy services, and returns from investments in subsidiaries and associates such as REC Limited. Its financing role makes it a critical institution in India’s power infrastructure growth.
