HUDCO Company background

Founded in: 1970
Managing director: SANJAY SHILENDRAKUMAR KULSHRESTHA

Housing and Urban Development Corporation Limited (HUDCO) was incorporated on April 25, 1970, as a private company fully owned by the Government of India. Headquartered in New Delhi, it is listed on both the National Stock Exchange (HUDCO) and Bombay Stock Exchange (540530). It operates under the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs. HUDCO is a Navratna Central Public Sector Enterprise, focussed on providing finance for housing and urban infrastructure development. It aims to combine profitability with social justice, particularly addressing housing for Economically Weaker Sections (EWS), Low Income Groups (LIG), and urban development projects across India.

HUDCO’s revenue comes mainly from housing finance and urban infrastructure finance. Under housing finance, it offers loans for building residential properties, social housing (for EWS and LIG), and retail housing through its “HUDCO Niwas” offering. In urban infrastructure finance, it provides term loans to state government agencies, local bodies, housing boards etc. for projects in water supply, roads, transport, sanitation, solid waste management, power, and social infrastructure. It also offers consultancy and planning services, technical assistance, and supports new town development. The company raises funds via its borrowings (domestic and increasingly overseas), issue of non-convertible debentures, and by the equity and capital support from government. Interest income from its loan book forms the core of its revenue stream.
