Infosys Limited was incorporated on July 2, 1981, as Infosys Consultants Private Limited in Pune, founded by seven engineers including N. R. Narayana Murthy and Nandan Nilekani. It later became Infosys Technologies Limited and ultimately Infosys Limited in June 2011. The company is headquartered in Bengaluru, Karnataka. It’s publicly traded and included in India’s leading indices – BSE SENSEX and NSE NIFTY 50 – and its American Depositary Receipts (ADRs) are listed on the New York Stock Exchange.

Infosys delivers a tailored suite of services across IT and business consulting: software development, maintenance, and validation; digital transformation via cloud, AI, data analytics, and engineering; and outsourcing through business process management (Infosys BPM). It also offers product platforms like Finacle (core banking), Panaya (application delivery), Infosys Equinox (digital commerce), Infosys Meridian (workplace), and Infosys Cortex (customer engagement). Organisational structure includes verticals such as Infosys Consulting, Infosys BPM, and EdgeVerve Systems. Revenue flows from long-term client engagements, license sales of digital products, consulting and managed services, and recurring contracts.

  • 1981: Incorporated in Pune by seven engineers with $250 capital.
  • 1992-93: Transitioned to public limited status and launched India’s IT IPO.
  • 1999: Became the first Indian company listed on Nasdaq, then later shifted ADR listings to NYSE.
  • 1999: Launched Finacle core banking suite; established SETLabs (later Infosys Labs) and began generating significant IP-based revenue.
  • 2002–04: Created Infosys BPM (formerly Progeon) and Infosys Consulting; fully acquired Progeon from Citigroup.
  • 2014–15: Created EdgeVerve Systems; launched Innovation Fund investing $500 million in deep tech startups.
  • 2018: Formed JV in Singapore with Temasek (Infosys Compaz) for Southeast Asian markets.
  • 2021: Became the fourth Indian company to touch $100 billion market capitalisation.
  • 2025: Acquired MRE Consulting and The Missing Link, expanding in consulting and cybersecurity.
  • Achieved carbon neutrality in FY2020: three decades ahead of the Paris Agreement target – and remained carbon neutral thereafter.
  • In 2019, received the United Nations Global Climate Action Award (Climate Neutral Now).
  • Announced ESG Vision 2030, aiming for “climate positive” status – sequestering more carbon than emitted – while advancing digital skilling (benefiting over 18 million people), community impact, water and waste management, inclusivity, and governance.
  • Environmental milestones include 29.7 million sq ft of green-certified buildings, 60 MW of rooftop solar capacity, and 77.7% renewable electricity usage in India. Additionally, its lake rejuvenation efforts added 4.3 billion litres of water storage.
  • Social initiatives include large-scale digital learning through the Infosys Springboard platform—reaching over 11.75 million learners.
  • At the Asset ESG Corporate Awards 2023: Platinum Award for Excellence, Best Investor Relations Team, Best Initiative in Environmental Responsibility, and Best Sustainability Team.
  • Ranked #11 on Fortune’s “Change the World” list for ESG and CSR impact.
  • Infosys Foundation received the Mahatma Award under ESG Excellence and Social Good categories. Its CSR report won a bronze at the ARC Awards.
