Bharti Hexacom Company background

Founded in: 1995

Bharti Hexacom Limited operates as a communications solution’s provider. Through the Rajasthan and North East telecom circles, it delivers mobile, fixed-line telephone, and broadband services under the Airtel brand. The company, which operates as a subsidiary of Bharti Airtel Limited, was listed on Indian stock exchanges on 12 April 2024. Its shares trade on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) as NSE: BHARTIHEXA and on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) as BOM: 544162.

The company was originally incorporated as Hexacom India Limited on 20 April 1995, receiving its certificate for commencement of business on 26 April 1995. Bharti Airtel (then Bharti Tele Ventures) acquired a majority stake in 2004 to enter the Rajasthan telecom circle, and the company was formally renamed Bharti Hexacom Limited on 2 December 2004. Bharti Airtel currently holds 70% of the equity, while the Government of India, through Telecommunications Consultants India Limited (TCIL), holds 15%, and the remaining 15% is held by public shareholders.

Bharti Hexacom operates through two reportable segments:

  • The ‘Mobile Services’ segment delivers voice and data services over 2G, 4G, and 5G wireless networks, supported by intra-city fibre infrastructure. This remains the principal revenue contributor.

  • The ‘Homes and Office Services’ segment provides voice and data communication via fixed line and broadband for households and enterprises.

The premiumisation strategy is anchored by Airtel Black, a single bill family proposition that bundles mobile, Wi Fi, DTH, and OTT subscriptions. In FY24, Hexacom invested approximately ₹20 billion, among the highest in its history, to accelerate 5G deployment and rural coverage.

Data users now make up 72.3% of all subscribers, compared to just 55.6% three years ago. Thanks to partnerships with local cable operators, home broadband has reached 93 cities across the country. The company pulls in money through subscription plans, roaming and interconnection fees, fixed-line and broadband services, plus a range of value-added extras.
