Founded in: 1954

Bharat Electronics Ltd (BEL) was incorporated on 8th May 1954 under the Ministry of Defence, Government of India. Headquartered in Bengaluru, Karnataka, BEL is a Navratna PSU and a key player in India’s defence electronics landscape. It is listed on both the National Stock Exchange (BEL) and Bombay Stock Exchange (500049). The company is engaged in the design, development, manufacture, and supply of a wide range of defence and civilian electronics, including radars, electronic warfare systems, communication devices, avionics, and naval systems.

BEL’s operations are divided across several verticals including Radars, Sonars, Electronic Warfare & Avionics, Communication Systems, Weapon Systems, Naval Systems, Electro-Optics, Homeland Security, and Civilian Applications. The company also supports non-defence sectors such as smart cities, e-governance, cyber security, solar energy, and healthcare electronics. BEL earns the majority of its revenue from the Indian Armed Forces through supply contracts, system integration, and lifecycle support. Other revenue sources include exports to friendly foreign nations, R&D contracts, service maintenance, training programs, and spares. With the Make in India initiative gaining traction, BEL also benefits from government procurement policies that prioritise indigenously designed and manufactured defence products.
