Tax Deducted at Source (TDS) and Tax Collected at Source (TCS) are important parts of the Indian tax system. The related paperwork and processes, however, can feel confusing. There are quite a few things people end up dealing with, such as Form 16, Form 26AS, certificates, correction requests and login issues. Most of it now happens through the TDS TRACES portal.

TRACES 2.0 became effective from 01 April 2026. The portal now comes with a more updated interface and smoother navigation. In this article, we will understand what is TDS TRACES. We will also learn the steps for TDS TRACES login, registration, forms, and certificate downloads.

TDS TRACES stands for TDS Reconciliation Analysis and Correction Enabling System. It is a portal linked to TDS and TCS-related services under the Income Tax Department.

Employers and deductors use the portal quite regularly for TDS-related work. Taxpayers often visit the portal for Form 26AS, TDS certificates, correction requests, statements, and similar records connected to tax deductions.

Before using services on the portal, users will first need to register.

  • Open the TRACES portal first: https://traces.tdscpc.gov.in/

  • The “Register as New User” option is available on the homepage itself.

  • Users then need to select the relevant category. Deductor, taxpayer, or PAO are the available options.

  • Certain details like PAN, TAN, or similar information must be entered here. Depending on the type of user, the details asked may differ here.

  • Sometimes, the portal also asks for information connected to earlier TDS returns for verification.

  • After the details are validated, users can create the password and security credentials.

  • The registration request can then be submitted for activation.

After activation, the portal becomes accessible to the user. Different TDS-related functions like statements, corrections, and downloads can then be used.

For users who already have an account, the TDS TRACES login process is as follows:

  • Go to the link https://traces.tdscpc.gov.in/auth/login/loginScreen

  • The first thing visible on the page is the user-category selection. Taxpayer, deductor, PAO, and other options are available there.

  • Login credentials can only be entered after selecting the category.

  • Some accounts work through PAN details. Others are connected with TAN information instead.

  • The portal may ask for CAPTCHA verification before moving ahead.

  • If the details match successfully, access to the dashboard is granted.

Downloads, statements, correction requests, certificates, and most TDS-related services are available from the dashboard itself.

Form 26AS can be downloaded through the TRACES portal in a few simple steps.

  • Users need to log in with their registered credentials first.

  • The “View Tax Credits (Form 26AS)” option is available on the dashboard itself after login.

  • Users can then choose the assessment year and file format they want.

  • After that, the statement becomes available for viewing or download.

Most people usually check Form 26AS before filing their income tax returns. It helps them verify whether the TDS deducted against their PAN is showing correctly.

TDS certificates are available through Form 16 and Form 16A. These are used as proof that tax has already been deducted and deposited. Form 16 is usually linked to salary income, whereas Form 16A applies to many non-salary payments where TDS is deducted.

The download process happens through the TRACES portal itself.

  • Users first need to access the portal with the registered login credentials.

  • The “Downloads” section becomes visible after login.

  • From there, the required certificate type can be selected. Depending on the requirement, they either select Form 16 or Form 16A.

  • Users must then select the financial year for which the form is needed.

  • Once selected, they click on submit. The certificate becomes available in the downloads section once it is ready.

The TRACES portal brings most TDS-related activities into one place. That is one of the main reasons it is used so widely by deductors, employers, and taxpayers.

  • Users can access TDS certificates directly through the portal. There is much less manual handling involved now.

  • Correction requests and defaults can also be checked from the same platform. Important updates usually appear there itself.

  • Form 26AS and similar tax records stay available in one place, which makes them easier to access later.

  • Employers and deductors can manage multiple TDS-related tasks through a single platform.

  • The portal also reduces paperwork to a certain extent because many services are now digital.

  • With TRACES 2.0, navigation and access to different services became comparatively smoother for regular users.

Issues on the TRACES portal are not unusual. Sometimes it is just a login problem. At other times, the issue may be related to incorrect details, pending downloads, or statement errors.

  • Login Problems

Login issues are fairly common on the portal. Sometimes it is just a wrong password. In other cases, CAPTCHA errors or expired credentials create problems during TDS TRACES login. Many users are able to access the account again after resetting the password. The selected login category may also need to be checked once.

  • PAN or TAN Mismatch

The portal checks PAN and TAN details very closely. If the records do not match properly, certain requests may not move ahead. Even a small typing error can create problems here.

  • Download Delays

Downloads are not always instant on TRACES. Sometimes certificates or statements take a while before they appear in the downloads section. The request may still be under processing when this happens.

  • Incorrect Details in Statements

Some users notice missing TDS entries or incorrect details in their statements later. This could be linked to deductions, personal information, or other tax-related records visible on the portal.

There is also a “Request for Resolution” option available on TRACES. Users can raise unresolved issues directly through the portal instead of handling everything offline. The request status can later be tracked online.

TDS TRACES has become one of the main platforms for handling TDS-related activities online. From statements and certificates to corrections and tax credit details, most of these services are now available through a single portal. The introduction of TRACES 2.0 also made the platform easier to navigate for regular users. Over time, TRACES has become closely connected to the overall TDS process for many users.

Form 16 can be downloaded through the TRACES portal after login. Users need to open the downloads section, select Form 16 and enter the required details. Once they submit the request, the file is generated by the portal. You can download it when you need to.

Not everyone has to use this portal. It’s mostly for people who deal with TDS compliance. But if you ever need Form 26AS or want to check your TDS records, you can still log in and use TRACES.

Right now, the portal covers everything related to TDS and TCS right from filing statements, downloading Form 26AS, getting certificates, making corrections, and handling defaults.

Registration starts on the TRACES portal itself. Users need to select the relevant category, enter the required details, complete verification, and create the login credentials.
