Amazon's two-wheeler sales doubled year-on-year due to strong demand for premium and electric vehicles, as well as from first-time buyers in over 2,300 smaller towns.
According to Amazon India, two-wheeler sales on its platform have been increasing two-fold year-on-year, with smaller cities being the biggest source of growth. The e-commerce giant said demand is increasingly being driven by customers in Tier-2 and Tier-3 markets, where premium motorcycles and electric vehicles are gaining popularity alongside traditional commuter bikes.
The company currently offers vehicles from more than 20 brands across electric, premium and commuter segments. These include Royal Enfield, Bajaj Auto, Hero MotoCorp, Ather Energy, KTM and Triumph, supported by a network of over 3,000 OEM-authorised dealers.
What Do The Numbers Say?
According to Amazon India, two-wheeler sales on its platform have doubled year-on-year, with smaller cities emerging as the biggest source of growth. The trend is even stronger in the electric vehicle segment, where seven out of ten buyers are from these regions.
Several cities recorded exceptionally strong growth over the past year. In southern India, Kakinada, Tirupati and Nellore witnessed up to a 12-fold increase in bookings compared with a year earlier. Meanwhile, Nagaur and Jind in northern India, along with Jamnagar, Bilaspur and Rajkot in western India, recorded booking growth of up to six times year-on-year.
The company also revealed that customers from more than 2,300 Tier-3 towns purchased a two-wheeler on Amazon for the first time during the last 12 months, highlighting the growing acceptance of online vehicle purchases outside major urban centres.
Amazon said customers are increasingly using online platforms to compare brands, fuel options and prices before making purchase decisions. The platform offers digital payments, price transparency and access to a wider range of vehicles than what may be available locally in smaller towns.

What Does This Mean For Auto Companies and E-Commerce?
The strong growth is a sign of a major change in consumer behaviour as more people are buying vehicles online due to the limited availability of dealerships or products and models in their respective regions.
Manufacturers, through online marketplaces, are able to use a distribution channel that not only helps to expand reach but does so with little or no investments in physical infrastructure. The fact that more people are interested in premium motorcycles and electric two-wheelers is also indicative of customers in smaller cities who are willing to spend on such items.
The numbers from Amazon reveal that India's next wave of digital commerce will be driven by small-town users making bigger purchases, as opposed to traditional online shopping categories. This trend is a win-win situation for e-commerce platforms and vehicle manufacturers too, especially the ones which are engaged in the premium and electric mobility segments.
