Adani Ports won a 10-year marine services contract for Argentina's first LNG export project to India that is expected to produce 2.45 million tonnes of LNG annually.

Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ) has received a 10-year marine services contract for Argentina's very first liquefied natural gas (LNG) export project. The deal is worth approximately $70 million (about ₹666 crore), and it will involve the company taking an important role in helping Argentina to become a player in the global LNG export market.

The contract has been awarded for the Southern Energy FLNG project. The project is being positioned as a landmark energy venture for the South American nation and is expected to begin commercial operations in September 2027.

The announcement is likely to attract investor attention to the company’s stock. On 8 June 2026, Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone’s share price closed at ₹1,805 on the National Stock Exchange.

Under the agreement, the Adani Group-Meridian consortium will provide a complete range of marine services required for the LNG export project. These include tugboat operations for LNG carriers, offshore logistics and supply support, as well as crew transfer services.

The project will be executed through Meridian Transportes Maritimos S.A., a 51:49 joint venture between Adani Harbour International FZCO and the Meridian Group.

The project will deploy two floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) vessels off the coast of Rio Negro. The first floating LNG unit is expected to begin operations in late 2027 and the second one is likely to start operations in 2028.

The project is expected to generate approximately 2.45 million tonnes of LNG annually once the two units become operational. This will enable Argentina to export natural gas derived from its extensive shale reserves to worldwide markets. Additionally, it will create a new source of foreign exchange earnings for the country.

The development also has significance for India. Argentina already has agreements in place to supply up to 10 million tonnes of LNG annually to India from 2027. As LNG demand continues to rise globally, the project could play an important role in diversifying India's energy import sources.
