Larsen & Toubro launched industrial electronics vertical LTEPS, commissioning two manufacturing lines in Coimbatore. The unit targets power electronics, robotics, mobility and communications for Indian and global customers.

Larsen & Toubro Ltd on Friday entered the business-to-business industrial electronics space with the start of manufacturing at its Coimbatore campus in Tamil Nadu. The new unit has been named L&T Electronic Products and Systems (LTEPS). Its headquarters are in Bengaluru and its factory is in Coimbatore. Two production lines are already running and taking orders from customers in India and overseas.

L&T shares were trading 1% lower at ₹4,008.20 as of 12:30 PM on 24 April.

The focus is industrial electronics across five areas:

  • Power electronics

  • Mobility solutions

  • Industrial robotics and automation

  • Communication platforms

  • Electronics systems design and manufacturing

The plan is to build products end-to-end rather than picking one part of the process. In-house research and development will sit alongside technology partnerships and testing infrastructure, giving the vertical control over more of the value chain than a pure contract manufacturer would have.

The two lines in Coimbatore are just the beginning. Larsen & Toubro has set aside 40 acres within the same campus to eventually build a full electronics hub. The plan is to bring product design, research, manufacturing, testing and supply chain operations all into one place.

Larsen & Toubro is not starting from scratch in electronics. The company has already built strong capabilities over the years, especially in defence-related systems.

Now, through LTEPS, it is using that same experience in a different way. The focus shifts to commercial and industrial markets.

Chairman and Managing Director S N Subrahmanyan said the move fits into what the company calls its Lakshya 2031 strategy, a long-term plan centred on building deeper technology capabilities and reducing India's dependence on imported electronics in critical industrial segments.

L&T is a $30 billion multinational with businesses spanning engineering, procurement and construction projects, high-tech manufacturing and services across global markets.
