Eicher Motors Gets ₹1.64 Crore Customs Duty Demand Order; Company Plans To Appeal

Eicher Motors has received a customs duty demand order and penalty totalling ₹1.64 crore from the Principal Commissioner of Customs in Kolkata, relating to a preferential tariff exemption claimed on a 2020 import shipment. The company says it plans to appeal the order. Read ahead to know more.
Eicher Motors said it has received a demand notice of ₹1.64 crore from the Principal Commissioner of Customs (Preventive), Kolkata.
The company received the order through email on 3 June 2026. The matter relates to a preferential tariff benefit claimed on the import of goods through a single shipment in 2020.
At 12:43 PM today, Eicher Motors shares were trading at ₹7,087.00, down 0.32%.
Demand Details
The total amount includes a customs duty demand of ₹0.82 crore raised under Section 28(4) of the Customs Act, 1962.
An equal amount of ₹0.82 crore has been imposed as a penalty under Section 114A of the Act.
Together, the duty and penalty add up to ₹1.64 crore.

Company's Stand
Eicher Motors has disputed the demand and said, based on its assessment, the order is not sustainable.
The company added that it is reviewing the available legal options, including the possibility of filing an appeal. It also stated that the notice is not expected to have any material impact on its business operations, financial position, or other activities.
