Sun Pharma Share Gains As ILUMYA Moves Beyond Psoriasis Treatment With New US Approval For Joint Disease
Sun Pharma shares gained after ILUMYA has received USFDA approval for adults with active psoriatic arthritis.

Sun Pharma shares rallied after it received USFDA approval for ILUMYA to treat adults with active psoriatic arthritis. The clearance expands the drug’s use beyond plaque psoriasis and is supported by two Phase 3 studies.

Shares of Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Limited rallied around 2% on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) after the company received US Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) approval for ILUMYA (tildrakizumab-asmn) to treat adults with active psoriatic arthritis, a painful joint medical condition. The rally has extended a four-day winning streak for Sun Pharma shares.

Sun Pharma announced the approval in a regulatory filing to the stock exchanges dated 30 October 2026. The drug was previously approved for moderate-to-severe plaque psoriasis. The new clearance expands its use to a condition affecting about 2.4 million people in the US.

At 11:22 am, Sun Pharma's share price was ₹1,794.90 on the NSE, up 1.93% from the previous close of ₹1,761. In today’s trading session, the stock opened at ₹1,769, touched an intraday high of ₹1,802.40, and hit a low of ₹1,766.20.

ILUMYA is an interleukin-23 (IL-23) inhibitor administered by healthcare professionals. Sun Pharma’s North America Chief Executive Officer (CEO) said this could provide an option for adults with active psoriatic arthritis who cannot self-administer treatment or prefer regular care at a medical facility.

Psoriatic arthritis can cause joint pain, swelling and stiffness, potentially leading to permanent joint damage.

The approval also adds to the drug’s existing international presence. ILUMYA is approved for plaque psoriasis in India, Australia, Canada, China and Japan. In Europe, it is marketed under the brand name ILUMETRI.

The approval was supported by the Phase 3 INSPIRE-1 and INSPIRE-2 clinical studies. These 52-week trials evaluated the efficacy and safety of a 100 mg dose of tildrakizumab in adults with active psoriatic arthritis.

The company said the studies showed significant effectiveness after two doses at the 24-week assessment.

The safety findings were consistent with ILUMYA’s established profile, with no new safety signals identified. Upper respiratory tract infections and COVID-19 were the most common adverse reactions reported in the psoriatic arthritis studies. The company’s release also advises screening patients for tuberculosis before treatment and highlights the potential risk of infections.

The approval adds another indication to the Sun Pharma portfolio in psoriatic disease and broadens the potential patient group for ILUMYA.
