Sensex and Nifty rallied despite renewed Middle East tensions, as investors balanced rising crude oil prices with strong earnings, sectoral gains and positive domestic market sentiment. Read more.

A host of global and domestic cues helped the Indian stock market close today’s trading session on a solid footing. Both the Sensex and Nifty 50 recorded gains. Upon close, the Sensex stood at 77,654.60, up 1.16%. The Nifty 50 stood at 24,250.20, up 1.10%.

Broader markets also ended in the positive. The Nifty Midcap 100 index ended 0.82% higher while the Nifty Smallcap 100 index ended 1.48% higher. On the sectoral front, the Nifty IT and Nifty Chemical recorded gains, ending 2.32% and 0.98% higher, respectively. On the other hand, Nifty Realty underperformed and closed 0.33% lower.

Stocks of the following entities were the top five gainers and losers in the Nifty 50 today:

Crude oil prices jumped in early trade with fighting resuming in the Middle East. At 15:39, Brent oil futures for October 2026 stood at $85.19 per barrel. During the same time, West Texas Intermediate (WTI) futures for September 2026 stood at $82.41 per barrel.

Some of the other significant headlines of the day are as follows:

  • The Adani Group plans to raise $3 billion to $4 billion over the next six months. This is after the business conglomerate has already mobilised ₹43,500 crore through equity fundraising over the past nine months.

  • Despite foreign institutional investors (FIIs) cutting stakes in 7 of the 10 Nifty IT stocks during the June quarter, the Nifty IT has surged 16% so far in July.

Gold and silver prices fell in early trade due to a firm dollar. That said, they seemed to send mixed signals as the day progressed. At 15:41, gold August futures on the Multi-Commodity Exchange (MCX) stood at ₹1,41,512 per 10 grams, down 0.08%. At the same time, September silver futures stood at ₹2,16,800 per kg, up 0.44%.

Though markets closed in the green today, investors are likely to remain focused on developments in the Middle East. Any further escalation can influence crude oil prices and overall share market sentiment in the coming sessions.
