Tata Chemicals Share Price Jumps Nearly 10% After Kenya Court Rejects Jurisdiction In Dispute Over African Soda Ash Business
Tata Chemicals shares climbed nearly 10% after a Kenya High Court ruling on the Magadi dispute

Tata Chemicals share price climbed around 10% on 26 October 2026 after a Kenya High Court order said it had no jurisdiction over a dispute involving the company’s East African subsidiary.

Tata Chemicals share price rallied in intraday trade on 26 October 2026 after the company disclosed a favourable development in a legal dispute involving its East African subsidiary, Tata Chemicals Magadi Limited (TCML), which is a major soda-ash producer in Africa.

The court order has drawn attention to the future of its Magadi operations, although the stock’s technical outlook remains uncertain.

On the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), Tata Chemicals shares jumped 9.7%, touching an intraday high of ₹631.55 on Monday. The stock opened at ₹578.65 compared to its previous close of ₹575.50.

At 12:52 pm, the Tata Chemicals’ share price was ₹600.95, up 4.42% on the exchange.

Tata Chemicals said in a regulatory filing that an order dated 23 October 2026 found that the High Court of Kenya had no jurisdiction over the dispute and could not take further steps in the matter.

The development comes after an earlier direction from the Kenyan President, William Ruto, for the Indian company to leave the Magadi soda ash operation, which it has run for around two decades.

Tata Chemicals said TCML is examining the order and will take the necessary legal and other steps to determine the way forward. It also noted that a committee led by the Principal Secretary for Mining, representing the ministry, and TCML’s chief executive officer (CEO) is conducting a detailed technical review.

The committee is expected to submit its findings to the Cabinet Secretary. The stated objective is to establish a sustainable framework supporting responsible mining, value addition, community development and mutually beneficial partnerships.
