Stock Market Update 29 July 2026: Sensex Climbs Over 700 Pts; Nifty 50 Above 24,150

The Indian stock market indices traded in the green during early trading on Wednesday. While Sensex gained over 700 points, Nifty 50 traded above 24,150. All sectoral indices were also trading higher.

The Indian stock market indices were trading higher after the market opening on Wednesday, 29 July 2026.

At 9:18 AM, the Sensex was up by around 713 points (0.93%) to trade at 77,479.07. The Nifty 50 was also trading higher by around 200 points (0.84%) at 24,185.90.

Notably, on Tuesday, 28 July 2026, the indices traded in a narrow range and ended the trading session slightly in the red. At the closing bell, the Sensex was 76,765.92, down 0.09%. The Nifty 50 stood at 23,985.35, down 0.04%.

Not just the Sensex and the Nifty 50, but most other Indian indices were in the green during early trading on Wednesday.

At around 9:21 AM, Bank Nifty was up by 320 points (0.57%) to trade at 57,076.35. The Nifty Financial Services index was also up by around 0.68% to trade at 26,200.10.

All sectoral indices were also trading higher. Nifty Auto gained 0.91%, Nifty FMCG gained 0.96%, Nifty Metal gained 1.00%, Nifty Pharma gained 0.66%, Nifty PSU Bank gained 0.62% and Nifty IT gained 1.52%.

The overall market breadth was bullish during early trading.

At 9:15 AM on Wednesday, about 1,412 shares were in the green, while 756 shares were in the red. 134 shares remained unchanged.

The top gainers on Nifty included L&T, HUL, Infosys, Bharti Airtel and Bajaj Finance.

The top losers were Interglobe Aviation, Bharat Electronics, Coal India, Power Grid and Asian Paints.

  • Middle East Tension: The US-Iran war in the Middle East showed signs of re-escalation. According to the US military, they intercepted a surprise attack from Iran on Tuesday.

  • Oil Prices Rise: Crude oil prices jumped 5% on Wednesday morning as renewed Middle East escalation brought fresh concerns around energy supply chain disruption.

  • Rupee Gains: The Indian National Rupee (INR) gains 12 paise to open at 95.70 per US dollar on Wednesday.

  • Strong Q1 Numbers: Most companies have announced their Q1 FY27 results, and the figures come out to be stronger than expectations. This has helped in improving investor sentiments.

Factors such as positive Q1 results have improved investor sentiments. However, the broader results will depend on how things pan out in the Middle East and other global geopolitical developments. Investors must keep an eye on oil prices and currency movements as well.
