GE Aerospace Delivers Three Engines To HAL

GE Aerospace delivered three F404-IN20 engines to HAL for the Tejas Mk1A programme. Engine supply constraints have delayed production, prompting HAL to impose contractual penalties.
US defence major, GE Aerospace, has delivered three F404-IN20 engines to Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) for India’s Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas programme.
GE Aerospace confirmed that the engines were shipped to HAL in August 2026. The company said it remains committed to supporting HAL and the Indian Air Force in powering India’s indigenous fighter aircraft.
The latest shipment comes as HAL continues to receive engines for the LCA Tejas Mk1A programme. Production has faced delays due to supply constraints.
HAL shares fell 0.30% to ₹4,765.60 on Thursday, underperforming amid a subdued market, while remaining about 7.5% below their 52-week high.
GE Had Promised 20 Engines In The Second Half Of 2026
Former HAL Chairman D K Sunil said in April that GE had committed to supplying 20 F404 engines between June and December 2026.
At the time, Sunil said HAL had received five engines, while a sixth was ready for collection. He added that GE viewed 20 engines as a conservative estimate and expected to deliver more.
Engine availability has remained a major constraint for the production and delivery of LCA Mk1A aircraft. HAL has maintained that its production line is ready, but aircraft deliveries depend on a steady supply of F404 engines.
HAL Enforces Contractual Penalties
HAL is also enforcing contractual penalties against GE over delays in supplying the F404 engines.
The contract reportedly includes a liquidated damages clause for delayed engine deliveries. HAL officials said the financial penalties are being applied in accordance with the terms of the agreement.
The Indian Air Force has placed an order with HAL for 180 LCA Mk1A aircraft.
