Coal India Q1 FY27 Results: Revenue At ₹46,255 Crore, Interim Dividend Of ₹5.50 Announced

Coal India Q1 FY27 Results: Coal India posted ₹46,255 crore in revenue from operations, and the company announced an interim dividend of ₹5.50 per share to its shareholders. However, coal production remained lower during the quarter.

In Coal India's consolidated results for the June quarter, revenue from operations stood at ₹46,254.80 crore, compared with ₹42,919.20 crore in the year-ago period.

Total income increased to ₹48,295.27 crore, while profit before tax was ₹11,719.36 crore. Profit after tax came in at ₹8,849.81 crore, broadly higher than ₹8,787.84 crore reported a year earlier. Basic earnings per share (EPS) stood at ₹14.36.

The Board also declared the first interim dividend of ₹5.50 per equity share for FY27. The record date has been fixed as 31 July 2026, and the dividend will be paid on or before 25 August 2026.

Operationally, Coal India produced 169.63 million tonnes of coal during the quarter, which is a drop of 7% compared with 183.32 million tonnes in Q1 FY26. Coal offtake rose 4% from last year to reach 197.86 million tonnes, which shows that even with less production, the demand is still healthy.

Overburden volume stayed pretty much the same at 504.68 million cubic metres from a year earlier's 508.31 million cubic metres, whereas raw coal inventory went down by 28.93 million tonnes or 22%, from the closing of March 2026.

The quarter also saw progress across several strategic projects. Coal India recorded revenue from energy sales for the first time, earning ₹5.68 crore after commissioning renewable energy assets. During July, the company commissioned 200 MW of its 300 MW solar power project at Khavda, Gujarat. It also received the commissioning certificate for its 100 MW solar plant at Bhadramali, Gujarat.

In its coal gasification business, the foundation stone was laid for India's first commercial coal gasification project, being developed by Bharat Coal Gasification and Chemicals Limited, a joint venture between Coal India and BHEL. The project involves an investment of ₹25,000 crore and will have an annual capacity of 6.6 lakh tonnes of ammonium nitrate.

Meanwhile, the commencement of commercial operations at Bharat Coking Coal Limited's (BCCL) 2 MTPA Bhojudih Coal Washery increased the company's total coal washing capacity to 17.35 MTPA. Production also began at the ASGKCC mine under the revenue-sharing MDO model.

On 27 July, Coal India's share price closed the day at ₹427.50 on the National Stock Exchange.
