26 October Holiday
Banks may close in select states on 26 October, while NSE and BSE are scheduled to remain open for regular trading.

Banks will observe a regional holiday in select states on 26 October 2026 for Maharishi Valmiki Jayanti and other local observances. However, the NSE and BSE are scheduled to remain open for regular trading.

The 26 October holiday has drawn attention as people check whether banks and stock markets will remain closed on Monday.

The date is listed as a regional bank holiday in some states for Maharishi Valmiki Jayanti and other local observances. However, it is not listed as a stock-market trading holiday on the official 2026 calendar of the National Stock Exchange (NSE).

Bank holiday calendars list Maharishi Valmiki Jayanti on Monday in states including Haryana and Punjab. Bank closures therefore depend on the state and the applicable holiday list. Customers should check their bank’s local schedule before visiting a branch.

Digital services, including internet banking, mobile banking and unified payments interface (UPI), generally remain available on bank holidays. However, services that require branch visits may be unavailable.

The 26 October holiday does not apply to the regular equity-market trading schedule. The next scheduled weekday trading holiday as per NSE’s 2026 calendar list is 10 November for Diwali-Balipratipada.

Therefore, both NSE and Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) trading are expected to operate normally on Monday, 26 October 2026, unless the exchanges issue a revised notice.

The regular equity-market session is scheduled from 9:15 am to 3:30 pm. Investors should check official exchange notices for any last-minute changes.
