Five of India's 10 most valued companies added ₹1.54 trillion in market capitalisation last week, led by TCS after strong quarterly earnings, while Reliance Industries and ICICI Bank also gained.
The combined market valuation of five of India's 10 most valued listed companies rose by ₹1.54 trillion last week, with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) emerging as the biggest contributor as equity markets extended their gains.
Among the top-10 companies by market capitalisation, Reliance Industries, ICICI Bank, State Bank of India (SBI), TCS and Bajaj Finance registered gains.
In contrast, HDFC Bank, Bharti Airtel, Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC), Larsen & Toubro (L&T) and Hindustan Unilever saw their valuations decline.
Note that the BSE Sensex advanced 582.06 points, or 0.75%, during the week, while the NSE Nifty climbed 127.4 points, or 0.52%.
TCS Posts Largest Increase
TCS added ₹72,072.3 crore to its market capitalisation, taking its overall valuation to ₹8,20,672.70 crore. The stock gained after the company reported a 4.61% increase in net profit for the quarter ended June at ₹13,349 crore. The company also indicated that demand, which was affected by the West Asia crisis, is expected to improve in the current quarter.
Market experts said investor sentiment remained supported by encouraging first-quarter earnings from the IT sector. They also pointed to renewed buying in financial stocks and the resilience of domestic economic indicators despite geopolitical tensions, elevated crude oil prices and uncertainty over global interest rates.
