L&T’s metals and minerals business vertical has bagged several orders from top domestic metals and mining companies, between ₹10,000 crore and ₹15,000 crore, which have been classified as mega orders in the company’s project classification system. Read ahead to know more.
Larsen and Toubro's (L&T) metals and minerals business vertical has secured multiple orders from domestic metals and mining companies, with the combined value falling in the ₹10,000 crore to ₹15,000 crore range, which L&T has classified as mega orders.
The announcements were made on 20 July 2026. L&T shares moved to the day's high on the news and were trading 0.73% higher at ₹3,842.60 at 2:43 PM, though the stock remained down approximately 9% over the past month.
Three Orders Across Sectors
The first order comes from a public sector company that is India's largest iron ore producer. As part of its programme to scale iron ore production capacity to 100 MTPA by 2030, the public sector undertaking (PSU) has awarded L&T Package BE-01C of an 18 MTPA iron ore handling plant in Chhattisgarh.
The scope of work covers design, engineering, procurement, installation and commissioning of a downhill conveyor system, screening plant, stockpile, yard equipment, rapid waggon loading systems and associated auxiliaries.
The second order is from a Navratna public sector company undertaking the expansion of a steel plant in West Bengal from 2.5 MTPA to 7.1 MTPA. L&T has secured multiple design and build as well as balance of plant packages for this project.
The third order extends L&T's existing relationship with a major private sector metals producer, with the company winning an engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract for a zinc processing plant. The scope includes design, engineering, procurement, installation, commissioning and site services, reinforcing L&T's capabilities in non-ferrous metallurgical projects.
What This Means For L&T
The three orders together span iron ore handling, steel plant expansion and zinc processing, reflecting the breadth of L&T's metals and minerals EPC capabilities. The company's chairman and managing director said the wins reaffirm L&T's leadership in the minerals and metals EPC sector and reflect customer confidence in the company's ability to execute projects of significant scale and complexity.
The orders also align with India's broader push to expand domestic metals and mining capacity, with public sector companies in iron ore and steel both undertaking large-scale capacity additions to meet growing domestic demand.
