Stock Market Holiday: NSE, BSE To Remain Closed On September 14 For Ganesh Chaturthi

Indian equity markets are set for a three-day break, with the BSE and NSE remaining closed from Saturday, September 12, through Monday, September 14. September 12 and 13 are regular weekend closures, while September 14 is an exchange holiday for Ganesh Chaturthi. Trading will resume on Tuesday, September 15.
The regular equity session will begin at 9:15 a.m. on Tuesday, following the pre-open session from 9 a.m. to 9:15 a.m. The closing session will run from 3:50 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Commodity trading will follow a different schedule on September 14. The Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) will remain closed during the morning session from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., before reopening for evening trading from 5 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. or 11:55 p.m., depending on the contract.
Banks in several cities will also remain closed on September 14 for Ganesh Chaturthi, according to the Reserve Bank of India's holiday calendar. The list includes Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Bhubaneswar, Nagpur, Panaji and Vijayawada.
Banking services could also face disruptions on Friday, September 11, after the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) called a nationwide strike over its demand for a five-day banking week. The umbrella body of seven bank employee and officer unions has also announced a three-day strike from September 28 to 30 and an indefinite strike from October 26. While September 11 is not an official bank holiday, branch operations at participating lenders could be affected.
Six Trading Holidays Left On The Calendar
Ganesh Chaturthi is one of 16 trading holidays listed by the NSE for 2026, with six holidays remaining between September and December.

The exchange calendar also includes Diwali Laxmi Pujan on November 8, which falls on a Sunday. A special Muhurat Trading session is expected to be held that day, with the exchange to notify the session timings separately.
After the September 14 holiday, the next full trading holiday will be October 2 for Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti, followed by Dussehra on October 20. The remaining market holidays are scheduled for November and December, with Christmas marking the final trading holiday of 2026
