Mazagon Dock Q2 Results: Profit Slumps 54% On Higher Provisions; Board Clears ₹5 Interim Dividend
Mazagon Dock Q2 profit falls 54% to ₹344 crore as revenue declines and the board approves a ₹5 interim dividend.

Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders reported a pronounced drop in second-quarter earnings for FY27. The reasons were twofold: increased provisions and subdued revenue. Consolidated net profit declined 54.1% year-on-year, while operating margins contracted significantly. The shares fell as much as 10% after the results. The board also approved a ₹5 interim dividend, additional credit support for its overseas subsidiary and a proposal to expand authorised share capital.

Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders reported a weaker September quarter, with a steep decline in profitability as provisions rose and revenue from operations contracted. The defence public sector undertaking (PSU) recorded a decline in consolidated net profit compared to the corresponding quarter last year.

Revenue from operations fell 16.5% from a year earlier. The decline pointed to a lacklustre quarter for the shipbuilder. Operating performance deteriorated as well, with higher provisions compounding the pressure on earnings.

Earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) dropped 71.3%, highlighting the extent of the decline in operating profitability.

The operating margin contraction reflects the pressure on profitability during the quarter. Provisions in the consolidated results rose sharply, contributing to the decline in earnings.

Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders shares fell as much as 10% on 27 October following the earnings announcement. At closing the share price stood at ₹1,754.00, down 6.46%, on the National Stock Exchange (NSE). It has declined 29% so far in 2026.

The board declared an interim dividend of ₹5 per equity share for FY27. Shareholders on the record date of 3 November 2026 will be eligible, with payment due by 26 November.

The board also approved additional credit facilities of ₹1,250 crore from State Bank of India, Mumbai, to support Colombo Dockyard PLC, its overseas subsidiary. The facility will enable standby letters of credit to be issued through the bank’s Sri Lanka operation, helping the subsidiary secure guarantees required for advances under shipbuilding contracts.

Separately, Mazagon Dock proposed raising its authorised share capital from ₹323.72 crore to ₹900 crore. The change remains subject to the necessary government and shareholder approvals.
