Post-Market, 6 May 2026: Sensex And Nifty 50 Witness Strong Rally

Benchmark indices, the Sensex and Nifty, recorded gains of over 1% on Wednesday. They rode high on favourable domestic and international cues.

Benchmark indices ended the day on a strong note on Wednesday, 6 May, with both frontline indices registering gains. At the closing bell:

  • The Sensex gained 940.73 points to close at 77,958.52

  • The Nifty 50 gained 298.15 points to close at 24,330.95

Even broader indices recorded gains with the Nifty Midcap 100 and the Nifty Smallcap 100 gaining 1.76% and 1.93%, respectively.

Nifty 50 Top Gainers And Losers

The table highlights the top gainers and losers on the Nifty 50 index:

Several companies across industry verticals declared their Q4 FY26 results today, including:

  • Polycab India Limited: The company recorded a revenue of ₹8,864 crore, up 26.9% year-on-year (YoY) from ₹6,986 crore. Its net profit jumped 6.3% year-on-year (YoY) to ₹773 crore against ₹727 crore.[Text Wrapping Break]

  • Radico Khaitan Limited: The company’s revenue jumped 15.3% YoY to ₹1,504 crore from ₹1,304 crore. Its net profit stood at ₹179.5 crore, up 94.9% from ₹92.1 crore YoY.

  • Aditya Birla Real Estate: The company’s revenue stood at ₹82.6 crore, a decline of 79.1% YoY as against ₹395 crore. Its net profit stood at ₹10.8 crore against a loss of ₹131 crore YoY.[Text Wrapping Break]

  • FirstSource: The company’s net profit stood at ₹205 crore, up by 70.6% quarter-on-quarter (QoQ). Its revenue stood at ₹2,583 crore, up 5.7% QoQ.

Some of the other key highlights of the market are:

  • Foreign institutional investors pulled out over ₹2 lakh crore from India’s secondary markets in the first four months of 2026.

  • Probable filing of draft red herring prospectus by NSE for its initial public offering (IPO) by 15 June 2026.

Gold and silver recorded gains in early trade on the Multi-Commodity Exchange (MCX). At 4:02 pm, gold June futures stood at ₹1,52,710 per 10 grams, up 1.97%, while silver July futures stood at ₹2,54,857 per kg, up 4.31%.

The easing of tensions between the US and Iran, coupled with strong AI-led tech learnings, lifted investors' sentiments. Also, on the domestic front, favourable political cues and improved infra executions drove markets.
