Niva Bupa Health Insurance Company Q2FY27 Results: Profit Rises 124% As Combined Operating Ratio Improves
Niva Bupa reports a 124% rise in Q2FY27 net profit to ₹135.64 crore, with improved claims and combined operating ratios.

Niva Bupa Health Insurance reported a sharp September-quarter profit increase, aided by higher premium collections and improved insurance operations. Its claims and combined operating ratios declined, while insurance service and net insurance margins rose. The solvency ratio, however, fell below its year-earlier level.

Niva Bupa Health Insurance Company reported a year-on-year increase in profit for the September quarter of financial year 2026-27 (Q2FY27). Growth in premium collections, higher insurance revenue and an improvement in underwriting performance contributed to the result.

The health insurer's performance also showed a change in its claims and expense profile. Both ratios declined from their levels in the corresponding quarter last year, helping improve the combined operating ratio. Insurance service margins also increased during the period.

The board approved the unaudited financial results on 4 November after their review by the audit committee. The joint statutory auditors issued an unmodified conclusion on the quarterly and half-yearly financial statements.

Niva Bupa shares advanced by ₹4.85 to ₹78.19 on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) on 4 November. That marked a 6.60% gain during the session. Trading remained active, with 29,21,986 shares changing hands.

The stock moved between ₹73.35 and ₹78.20, touching its intraday high near the upper end of that range. The market advance came as the company disclosed a sharp improvement in quarterly earnings.

The company's insurance metrics showed year-on-year improvement in Q2FY27.

The lower claims ratio points to a smaller share of business being spent on claims. Meanwhile, the reduced expense ratio reflects lower operating expenses relative to the relevant insurance revenue base.

The combined operating ratio fell to 93.20%, remaining below 100%. This signals an underwriting surplus before investment income and other items. Insurance service margin rose to 6.80% from 3.38%, while net insurance margin advanced to 11.84% from 10.27%, reflecting the contribution of investment income.

The solvency ratio declined compared with the previous year, making capital adequacy an important part of the quarterly assessment. The measure indicates an insurer's available capital relative to its regulatory capital requirement.

Niva Bupa also disclosed an earlier regulatory order concerning expenses of management limits for FY25. The Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) had directed the company not to open new places of business for six months. The insurer said it had accepted the order and would not appeal against it.

For the September quarter and the first half of FY27, the company reported compliance with the applicable expenses of management limits. It also confirmed that it had implemented Indian Accounting Standards (Ind AS) from April 2026.
