NSE Shares Worth ₹3,225 Crore Unlock For Trading On 22 October; Stock Continues To Trade Below Its IPO Price

NSE shares worth ₹3,225 crore become eligible for trading as the one-month lock-in ends on 22 October 2026. The stock trades below its IPO price of ₹1,785. Read more for details.
Nearly ₹3,225 crore worth of National Stock Exchange of India (NSE) shares will become eligible for trading on Thursday, 22 October 2026, following the expiry of the one-month lock-in period. The 18.9 million shares account for around 1% of the exchange’s outstanding equity.
NSE shares closed 1.1% lower at ₹1,706.55 on Wednesday, 21 October. The stock is trading below its issue price of ₹1,785, leaving investors who bought shares during the exchange’s much-anticipated market debut last month at a loss.
On Thursday, at 9:42 am, NSE shares were down another 1.14% at ₹1,687.10.
What Happens When The NSE Lock-In Ends?
The end of the lock-in period means shareholders can now trade these 18.9 million shares. However, there is no certainty that they will rush to sell. The ₹3,225 crore figure reflects their value at Wednesday’s closing price, not the amount that will necessarily enter the market. The actual supply entering the market will depend on the decisions made by shareholders.
NSE listed on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) on 24 September 2026 at ₹1,800 per share, about 0.8% above its initial public offering (IPO) price. The stock climbed further during its first trading session, lifting the exchange’s market capitalisation to around ₹4.65 lakh crore.
The initial gains have not lasted. NSE shares have since fallen below the issue price, making Thursday’s trading session an important point to watch as the lock-in restriction lifts.
How Did Investors Respond To NSE's IPO?
The exchange attracted considerable demand during its three-day public offering. The IPO was subscribed 5.71 times the total number of shares on offer, with institutional investors accounting for a substantial portion of the bids. The retail portion was also fully subscribed.
Despite that response, the stock has struggled to maintain its early gains. Its latest closing price of ₹1,706.55 puts it ₹78.45 below the IPO issue price.
The lock-in expiry adds another factor for the market to consider, although it does not automatically mean a large volume of shares will be sold. Trading activity on Thursday should offer some indication of whether shareholders are looking to exit or remain invested.
Investors will also be watching the stock’s price movement and trading volumes over the coming sessions. These figures may help show how the market is absorbing any additional shares offered for sale after the restriction ends.
