NSE Shares List at ₹1,800
NSE Enters India’s Top 10, Ranks 9th by Market Cap.

NSE shares made a subdued debut on the BSE at ₹1,800, just under 1% above the IPO price. The stock later climbed to ₹1,878, while the exchange entered India’s top 10 listed companies with a market capitalisation of ₹4.63 lakh crore. The ₹22,562-crore IPO drew strong institutional demand despite a muted listing.

Shares of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) made their stock market debut on Thursday, 24 September 24, listing at ₹1,800 apiece on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE). The opening price was less than 1% above the IPO price of ₹1,785.

The listing valued NSE at ₹4.63 lakh crore, placing the exchange 9th among India’s largest listed companies by market capitalisation. It moved ahead of companies including Hindustan Unilever, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries and Titan.

NSE’s market value now trails Reliance Industries, HDFC Bank, Bharti Airtel, ICICI Bank, SBI, TCS, Bajaj Finance and LT. Before listing, the exchange was valued at ₹4.42 lakh crore based on the IPO price.

The stock gained momentum after its muted opening, rising as much as 4.3% from the listing price to touch an intraday high of ₹1,878. At that level, NSE shares were 5.2% above the IPO price.

Market participants have pointed to the limited near-term supply of shares as one factor that could influence trading after the listing. Under the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) rules, most pre-issue shares held by non-promoter shareholders are subject to a six-month lock-in from the IPO allotment date, with certain Alternative Investment Fund (AIF) categories exempted.

NSE will not receive proceeds from the issue as the ₹22,562-crore IPO was entirely an offer for sale (OFS) involving 12.64 crore shares.

The issue was India’s second-largest IPO, behind Hyundai Motor India’s ₹27,870-crore offering in 2024.

NSE operates across trading, clearing, settlement, listing, market data and index licensing. Its platforms cover equities, derivatives, debt and mutual funds, alongside international operations through NSE International Exchange at GIFT City.

As of Q1FY27, NSE had 261 million registered investor accounts, 132 million unique investors, 1,328 trading members and 3,005 listed companies.

Its dominance across key trading segments, deep liquidity and technology infrastructure remain central to its business profile. However, its index-options share has faced pressure from regulatory changes and shifts in trading activity.
