NSE IFSC And London Stock Exchange Sign Memorandum Of Understanding To Explore Cross-Border Listings And Trading Links

NSE IFSC and London Stock Exchange plan to explore new listing opportunities, trading links and financial products to improve market access for investors and companies in both countries.
NSE IFSC Ltd (NSEIX) and London Stock Exchange plc (LSE) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to explore cross-border listings, trading connectivity and new financial products, with a focus on strengthening capital market links between India and the UK.
The agreement provides a framework for the two exchanges to examine dual and cross-listings across equities, fixed-income securities and exchange-traded funds (ETFs). They will also explore opportunities to facilitate trading in existing financial products and develop new instruments, including derivatives listed on NSEIX that use FTSE Russell indices as underlying benchmarks.
Other areas under consideration include the joint development of equity indices, cross-border trading connectivity and market data distribution, the exchanges said in a joint announcement.
The agreement comes against the backdrop of the India-UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA), which aims to create opportunities for closer integration between the two countries' financial services industries and capital markets.
NSE IFSC Looks To Expand Market Access
V. Balasubramaniam, managing director and chief executive officer of NSEIX, said the MoU marks an initial step towards facilitating dual and cross-listings across financial products and exploring connectivity between the exchanges.
He said the proposed collaboration could create two-way trading opportunities, improve liquidity and widen the investor base. NSEIX's presence in the GIFT International Financial Services Centre (IFSC) ecosystem and the London Stock Exchange's established position in the UK market could allow the exchanges to draw on their respective strengths, he added.
The proposed arrangements could give companies and investors in both markets more avenues to access investment opportunities. However, the exchanges have not announced specific products, listing plans or trading arrangements under the agreement.
London Stock Exchange Sees Growth Opportunities
Dame Julia Hoggett, chief executive officer of London Stock Exchange plc and head of digital and securities markets at London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG), said the exchange had a strong track record of building partnerships with exchanges globally.
She said the MoU would strengthen its relationship with NSEIX and help both sides explore new growth opportunities. The collaboration would also support efforts to connect the Indian and UK capital markets and create benefits for investors and companies, she added.
The scope of the agreement extends beyond listings to potential cooperation on indices, derivatives and market data. The exchanges will assess these areas to determine how they could improve cross-border market access and broaden the investment options available to issuers and investors in both jurisdictions.
The MoU sets out areas for exploration and does not confirm the launch of any specific financial product or trading service.
