NALCO Signs Technology Deal With EGA

NALCO has partnered with Emirates Global Aluminium to deploy DX+ Ultra technology for its 0.5 million tonnes per annum smelter expansion in Odisha, aiming to boost capacity, productivity and efficiency.
State-owned aluminium producer National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO) has signed a technology licensing agreement with Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA) for its planned brownfield smelter expansion in Anugul, Odisha, with a capacity of 0.5 million tonnes per annum.
Under the agreement, EGA will license its DX+ Ultra aluminium smelting technology to NALCO. The partnership will also cover the necessary know-how, designs and technical information for implementing the technology.
EGA will provide technical assistance at various stages of the project. The support is expected to help NALCO implement the technology at the expanded facility.
On 7 September 2026, NALCO shares fell 1.47% to close at ₹368.60, compared with the previous close of ₹374.10.
Expansion To Increase Aluminium Capacity
The brownfield project is expected to add around 0.5 million tonnes per annum of aluminium production capacity at NALCO’s Anugul smelter.
The additional capacity is expected to take NALCO closer to an overall production capacity of around 1 million tonnes per annum.
NALCO said the DX+ Ultra technology is aimed at increasing productivity and improving energy efficiency. The company also expects the technology to help optimise capital and operating costs at the expanded smelter.
Partnership Supports NALCO’s Growth Plans
NALCO Chairman and Managing Director Brijendra Pratap Singh said the adoption of advanced technology would support the company’s expansion strategy.
He added that the partnership would help strengthen India’s aluminium ecosystem.
The agreement was signed in the presence of Singh and EGA Chief Executive Officer Abdulnasser Bin Kalban. NALCO said the partnership with the Dubai-based aluminium producer is part of its wider expansion programme.
