Great Eastern Shipping Company Q1 Results: Profit Surges Over 2x; Interim Dividend Declared

Great Eastern Shipping Company reported a strong Q1 FY27 as its profit more than doubled to ₹1,308.84 crore. The company also announced an interim dividend of ₹14.40 per share, with 7 August fixed as the record date.

The Great Eastern Shipping Company delivered its strongest June-quarter performance in recent years, helped by a sharp rise in freight earnings from its shipping fleet. The company reported higher revenue, stronger operating margins and more than doubled its profit compared with the same period last year.

The board also announced an interim dividend of ₹14.40 per equity share for FY27. Shareholders whose names appear on the company's records as of 7 August will be eligible for the payout, which is scheduled to be made on or after 27 August.

  • Revenue from Operations: ₹2,005.36 crore (up 66.9% YoY)
  • Net Profit: ₹1,308.84 crore (vs ₹504.50 crore a year ago)
  • Profit Before Tax: ₹1,364.78 crore (vs ₹535.96 crore a year ago)
  • Earnings Before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation, and Amortisation (EBITDA): ₹1,337.7 crore (vs ₹642.8 crore a year ago)
  • EBITDA Margin: 66.7% (vs 53.5% in the year-ago quarter)
  • Interim Dividend: ₹14.40 per share
  • Record Date: 7 August 2026
  • Dividend Payment: On or after 27 August 2026
  • Shipping Revenue: ₹1,890.97 crore
  • Offshore Revenue: ₹406.02 crore

Most of the growth came from the shipping division. Revenue from shipping operations reached ₹1,890.97 crore, compared with ₹994.21 crore in the same quarter last year. The business continued to benefit from healthy charter rates and favourable market conditions, making it the biggest contributor to the company's overall earnings.

The offshore business also moved higher during the quarter. Revenue from this segment increased to ₹406.02 crore, up from ₹350.41 crore a year earlier.

Higher earnings from both businesses fed through to operating performance. EBITDA almost doubled during the quarter and the operating margin widened to 66.7%, compared with 53.5% in the corresponding period last year.

With revenue growing faster than costs, consolidated profit for the quarter came in at ₹1,308.84 crore, well above the ₹504.50 crore reported a year ago.

The company also reported a profit before tax of ₹1,364.78 crore, up from ₹535.96 crore a year earlier. Earnings per share (EPS) nearly tripled to ₹91.68, compared with ₹35.34 in the year-ago period.

The quarterly results were announced after market hours. Ahead of the earnings release, Great Eastern Shipping Company shares finished Monday's session at ₹1,398.40 on the National Stock Exchange, gaining 3.55% for the day.

Market participants will now watch how the stock reacts to the sharp jump in earnings and the announcement of an interim dividend on Tuesday.
