Auto Stocks Rally Up To 9% As Ashok Leyland Leads Gains; Maruti, Tata Motors PV And M&M Lift Nifty Auto Nearly 3%
Ashok Leyland leads auto stocks rally as Nifty Auto gains 3%.

Ashok Leyland surged 9% as auto stocks rallied on Thursday, lifting the Nifty Auto index nearly 3%. Maruti Suzuki, Tata Motors PV and M&M were among the major gainers.

Automobile stocks were among the biggest gainers on Dalal Street on Thursday, 5 November. Ashok Leyland shares jumped 9%, while Maruti Suzuki, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles and Mahindra & Mahindra also posted strong gains. The buying pushed the Nifty Auto index up nearly 3%, making it the best-performing sectoral index on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) during morning trade.

The Nifty Auto index climbed 2.9%, gaining around 761 points to trade at 27,265. The benchmark Nifty 50 was up 1.7% over the same period.

Ashok Leyland led the pack, rising 9% to ₹168. Maruti Suzuki gained 4.7% to ₹12,556, while Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles advanced 4.5% to ₹291. Mahindra & Mahindra was up 3.4% at ₹3,063. The three stocks also featured among the leading gainers on the Nifty 50.

The rally extended to other automobile companies. Hyundai Motor India rose 3.3% to ₹2,132, and Samvardhana Motherson International added 3.1% to ₹165. Eicher Motors and TVS Motor Company were both up 2.5%, trading at ₹7,610 and ₹4,440, respectively. Uno Minda gained 2.4% to ₹1,226.

Bharat Forge, Hero MotoCorp and Bosch also traded higher, with gains of around 1.5–2%. The buying was not universal, though. Bajaj Auto slipped 0.1%, while Tube Investments of India declined 0.6%.

The sharp correction in crude oil prices has helped lift sentiment towards automobile stocks. Brent crude futures fell another 1.03% to $93.65 per barrel in early Asian trade on Thursday, following a nearly 9% plunge in the previous session. US WTI crude was down 1.29% at $86.98.

Brent has lost around 20% this week. The decline followed growing expectations that the US-Iran conflict could move towards de-escalation after the Republican Party's setbacks in the US midterm elections.

Cheaper crude is a positive for the automobile sector on several counts. Lower fuel prices can improve household spending capacity and support demand for vehicles. Manufacturers may also get some relief from transportation, logistics and other energy-linked expenses if the decline continues.

The US midterm results have provided another boost to market sentiment. Investors are assessing whether the change in the political balance could lead to greater scrutiny of the Trump administration's trade policies, including tariffs.

Any easing of trade-related concerns would be welcomed by global markets and companies exposed to international supply chains. The possibility of lower geopolitical tensions has also encouraged investors to return to cyclical sectors such as automobiles.

The nearly 3% rise in the Nifty Auto index puts automobile stocks at the front of Thursday's market rally. Ashok Leyland's 9% jump stood out, but gains across passenger vehicle makers, two-wheeler companies and auto component manufacturers show that buying was spread across the sector.

The next move will depend partly on whether crude prices stay lower and global sentiment remains supportive. Investors will also watch vehicle demand and the impact of input costs on manufacturers in the coming sessions.
