TCS Clarifies US Green Card Programme Suspension Will Have No Impact On Its Hiring Plans And Workforce Expansion Strategy

TCS said the US green card programme suspension will not affect its hiring plans, citing limited PERM applications over the past two years. The update follows the TCS results announcement and comes amid restrictions affecting several major IT companies, including Infosys and Wipro.
Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has said the US government's suspension of its participation in the Permanent Labour Certification (PERM) programme will not materially affect its hiring plans or client engagements. The company stated that its reliance on the green card process has remained limited.
The clarification came on 9 October 2026, a day after the TCS results announcement for the second quarter of the financial year 2026–27. TCS said it had submitted fewer than 10 PERM applications over the preceding two years.
TCS To Continue US Hiring Plans
TCS said its US workforce strategy focuses on recruiting local talent. Its approach also includes campus recruitment, supported by its presence across 31 offices and delivery centres in the country.
The IT services company reiterated its commitment to hiring an additional 15,000 employees in the US over the next five years. It expects the green card programme suspension to have a limited impact on its workforce plans and customer relationships.
TCS also confirmed that it would comply with any directions issued by the US Department of Labor. The company cited its limited use of the PERM programme as a key reason for its assessment.
Impact Of The Green Card Suspension On IT Firms
The Infosys-TCS-Wipro green card suspension follows the US government's announcement on 8 October 2026. Other affected companies include HCLTech, Cognizant, Microsoft and Adobe.
The PERM process is a key step for employers sponsoring eligible foreign workers for employment-based permanent residency, commonly known as a green card. The suspension prevents affected companies from submitting new PERM applications or progressing pending applications while it remains in effect.
The development has drawn attention across India's IT sector because of its reliance on the US market. However, the suspension does not automatically cancel existing H-1B visas. Its immediate impact is on the permanent residency process for employees who depend on employer sponsorship.
