IT Stocks Rally As L&T Technology Services Leads Gains After Q2 Results; TCS, Infosys And Wipro Also Advance
Shares of major IT companies, including TCS, Infosys, Wipro and L&T Technology Services, rise.

IT stocks rallied on Wednesday, with L&T Technology Services jumping as much as 15% in early trade after strong Q2 results. TCS, Infosys, Wipro and other technology shares also advanced amid improving earnings sentiment and a positive sector outlook.

Information technology (IT) stocks rallied on Wednesday, 21 October, with L&T Technology Services leading the gains after posting strong September-quarter results. A positive outlook on the sector from industry watchers also lifted investor sentiment, sending the Nifty IT index sharply higher.

The Nifty IT index rose as much as 2.6% to an intraday high of 32,348.25, comfortably outperforming the benchmark Nifty 50, which gained around 1%. All constituents of the IT index traded in the green, indicating that the buying extended across the sector.

L&T Technology Services shares surged as much as 15%, while Wipro shares advanced 4% in early trade. Infosys, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Tech Mahindra, HCL Technologies and Mphasis gained between 2% and 3.5%. Persistent Systems, LTIMindtree and Coforge also rose more than 1% each.

The September-quarter earnings season has started on a positive note for India's IT sector, with results from major companies offering some reassurance to investors concerned about technology spending and the impact of artificial intelligence.

TCS and HCL Technologies have reported earnings above market expectations. This helped improve sentiment towards the sector. Investors are also looking for signs that demand for technology services is stabilising after a period of uncertainty around client spending.

L&T Technology Services stood out after reporting higher revenue and a sharp increase in profitability for the September quarter. The company reported revenue of ₹3,040.4 crore for Q2FY27, up 3.4% from the previous quarter and 12.1% from a year earlier. Revenue in dollar terms increased 2.7% quarter-on-quarter and 4.8% year-on-year on a constant-currency basis to $317 million.

The company’s net income rose to ₹548.2 crore, marking a 53.7% increase over the June quarter and a 66.8% jump compared with the same period last year.

The strong earnings numbers made L&T Technology Services the standout stock in the sector’s Wednesday rally.

The positive view from industry watchers provided another boost to IT stocks. Investors have been watching for signs of a recovery in traditional technology spending, particularly as concerns over the pace of AI adoption and its effect on existing IT services businesses continue.

Accenture’s guidance for the next financial year has also drawn attention to the outlook for conventional IT expenditure. Expectations that spending could improve have encouraged buying in established IT companies.

Despite Wednesday’s rally, risks remain for the IT sector and the broader market. Elevated crude oil prices, high US bond yields and continued foreign investor outflows could keep market sentiment under pressure.

IT companies also face uncertainty over how AI adoption will change client budgets, the pace of revenue growth and the valuations investors are willing to pay for their shares.

For now, stronger quarterly results and hopes of a recovery in technology spending have supported buying in IT stocks. Whether the rally lasts will depend on further earnings updates and clearer signs of improvement in demand from clients.
