The Sensex was down by 544.01 points (0.72%) to trade at 75,033.57.

The Nifty 50 was down by 137.05 points (0.58%) to trade at 23,498.05.
On Tuesday, 8 September 2026, both benchmark indices tumbled and closed lower. At the closing bell, the Sensex stood at 75,577.58, down 0.73%. The Nifty 50 stood at 23,635.10, down 0.61%.

Apart from the Sensex and the Nifty 50, other broader indices also traded in the deep red during early trading on Wednesday.
At around 10:50 AM, Bank Nifty was down 313.30 points (0.55%) to trade at 56,464.25. The Nifty Financial Services index was also down about 0.84% to 25,479.70.
Most sectoral indices also traded in the red, with Nifty Metal the only exception.
