Pre-Market 21 October 2026
GIFT Nifty, crude oil prices, Q2 earnings and the Jio Platforms IPO are key cues for Wednesday’s trade.

GIFT Nifty points to a potentially positive start today as Brent crude eased and US stocks advanced while investors track Q2 earnings, Jio IPO and overseas markets for Wednesday’s session.

Indian equities resume trading on Wednesday after the Dussehra holiday, following sharp losses in the Sensex and Nifty 50. Meanwhile, crude oil has eased from its highs but remains sensitive to tensions in the Middle East.

The Sensex dropped 876.37 points, or 1.17%, to settle at 73,852.90 on Monday. The Nifty 50 lost 257.20 points, or 1.11%, to close at 22,888.95.

Selling was broad-based across BSE sectoral indices. The public sector bank index was the exception, rising 2.6%, while the private bank and IT indices each fell below 1.2%.

The rupee also pared its early gains to end 3 paise lower at ₹94.92 against the US dollar on a provisional basis. The decline in domestic equities and a recovery in crude oil prices weighed on the currency.

In the US, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 1.02% to 52,495.88. The S&P 500 advanced 0.28% to 7,712.57. In contrast, the Nasdaq Composite fell 0.22% to 26,424.82.

European markets ended Tuesday lower. The FTSE 100 fell 0.29% to 10,733, while France’s CAC 40 declined 0.38% to 7,838.49. Concerns around political unrest and fiscal pressures in France weighed on regional sentiment.

Asian markets also closed lower. Japan’s Nikkei 225 shed 1.30% to 64,075.42, while South Korea’s KOSPI fell 3.73% to 5,552.74. The declines came amid continued pressure on technology shares and concerns over the sustainability of AI-related investments.

At 7:35 am on 21 October, GIFT Nifty was trading at 23,012.50, up 78 points from its previous reference level. This was above the Nifty 50’s last close of 22,888.95, pointing to a potentially positive start if the gap holds.

22,800 level is expected to act as an immediate support for the Nifty 50. A break below it could expose the 22,600–22,500 zone.

On the upside, the 23,000–23,200 range is expected to act as resistance.

Crude oil prices will remain in focus after Brent slipped 1.1% from a five-month high. Investors will track developments around the Strait of Hormuz, reported vessel attacks in the Gulf and tensions involving Iran, given the potential impact on India’s import bill and inflation.

The earnings calendar will also keep stock-specific action in focus, with Adani Green and Eternal Q2 results scheduled to be announced among the companies. Investors will also watch the opening of the Jio Platforms IPO, alongside movements in the rupee and foreign fund flows as domestic trading resumes after the holiday.
