Jio Platforms IPO: Akash Ambani Calls Listing A ‘Great Responsibility’ As Reliance Prepares First Public Issue In Nearly 30 Years

Reliance Jio Chairman Akash Ambani has spoken about the responsibility of taking Jio public, saying the listing will mark the start of a new journey focused on delivering growth and value to shareholders.
Reliance Jio Chairman Akash Ambani has called the upcoming Jio Platforms IPO a “great responsibility” towards shareholders as the Reliance group prepares for its first public issue in nearly three decades.
The comments come as Reliance Industries moves ahead with plans to list its digital and telecom arm, a development that could mark a major milestone for the group and India's primary market.
“I see it (Jio IPO) as a great responsibility for our shareholders. The group has had a very firm philosophy on shareholder value ... this is the first public issue from the Reliance group in nearly three decades,” Ambani said in an interview with Moneycontrol on the sidelines of India Mobile Congress 2026.
Ambani said the IPO itself would only mark the beginning of Jio's journey as a listed company, with the focus thereafter shifting towards delivering growth and value for shareholders.
“It is the start of the journey ... after that it is to provide shareholders growth and value to them,” he said.
Akash Ambani On Jio Platforms IPO
The proposed listing of Jio Platforms would be the first public issue from the Reliance group in nearly 30 years, putting the IPO in focus as one of the most closely watched upcoming listings in India.
Ambani's comments underline the group's focus on shareholder value as Jio prepares for the transition from being a wholly owned Reliance Industries business to a publicly traded company.
The Jio chairman also reiterated the company's focus on keeping its offerings affordable as it expands beyond connectivity into technology platforms and solutions.
“We will always play our part of being the most affordable for consumers,” Ambani said. Jio has expanded from its core telecom operations into digital services and newer technology businesses, including artificial intelligence, cloud and enterprise solutions.
Jio IPO In Focus
Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani had earlier said at the company's annual general meeting that Jio was preparing for an IPO, subject to necessary approvals.
The proposed listing would give investors a direct opportunity to participate in Jio, which has so far remained housed within Reliance Industries.
The timing, valuation, issue size and other details of the proposed IPO are yet to be formally announced.
Akash Ambani's latest comments bring the Jio Platform IPO back into focus as Reliance prepares for what would be its first public issue in nearly three decades.
