Is Stock Market Open Today For Dussehra? Check NSE, BSE and Commodity Market Trading Schedules For 20 October 2026
The NSE and BSE are closed on 20 October 2026 for Dussehra. Check the remaining stock market holidays in 2026.

The Indian stock market will remain closed on 20 October 2026. The NSE and BSE are observing a trading holiday for Dussehra. Three more full-day market holidays in 2026 remain after today.

If you are checking whether the stock market is open today, equity trading on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) is suspended on Tuesday, 20 October 2026, for Dussehra.

The previous market holiday was on 2 October 2026 for Gandhi Jayanti, making this the second exchange holiday of October.

A total of 16 stock market holidays are scheduled for 2026, out of which 12 have passed. Following the Dussehra closure, three more holidays are scheduled over the remaining two months of the year.

Equity markets remain closed. But commodity exchanges have different schedules on 20 October 2026. The Multi Commodity Exchange of India (MCX) will remain closed during the morning session but reopen for evening trading.

The National Commodity & Derivatives Exchange Limited (NCDEX), however, will remain closed for both trading sessions. Investors should therefore check the relevant exchange calendar before planning trades in equities or commodities.

The remaining holidays in 2026 are:

  • 10 November 2026: Diwali-Balipratipada

  • 24 November 2026: Guru Nanak Jayanti

  • 25 December 2026: Christmas

Diwali Laxmi Pujan falls on Sunday, 8 November 2026. Although it is a weekend, exchanges are expected to hold the customary Muhurat Trading session. The timings of Muhurat Trading are already announced, from 2:20 pm to 3:30 pm.

Four key holidays fall on weekends in 2026, so they do not result in additional weekday market closures. These include:

  • Mahashivratri on 15 February

  • Eid-ul-Fitr on 21 March

  • Independence Day on 15 August

  • And Diwali Laxmi Pujan on 8 November

Christmas falls on a Friday, creating a long weekend for market participants. For anyone checking “is the stock market open today” or planning trades around the remaining stock market holidays in 2026, the exchange calendar can help identify non-trading days in advance.
